Brand new video of my song, “Julene”
I’ve been going to Block Island, RI every summer since I was a kid, and there are few places as peaceful as that quiet little island. On my new album, I even wrote a song called “Mansion Beach,” about a Block Island beach where we used to swim and the amazing story behind that name.
Here’s my song, Mansion Beach:

But that’s not why I’m writing this post – I’m writing because I was selected to play the Block Island Music Festival on June 16th, 7pm. It’s held out on Block Island every year, at Captain Nick’s. Now, anybody who’s ever been out to Block Island knows Captain Nick’s. You might not have the clearest memory of it, but you’ve been there and that mental fog means you had a good time.
I’ll be performing on Thursday night, so grab that Point Judith ferry and meet me out there.

About a year ago, I decided I wanted to record an album completely on my own. No producers, engineers, or band around – just me with myself, playing all the instruments. No time restraints, complete control over the sound, and no excuses. This album would sound exactly as I heard it in my head.
I couldn’t be happier to say that after a year of sneaking off to my recording studio on days off and weekends, I’ve finally finished this album – appropriately titled, “Simple Things.” It’s a stripped down, mostly acoustic album. It’s a little rough at parts, but it’s real – and there’s no over-produced layers of sound getting in the way of the heart of the song.
Some of my favorite tracks on the album are the ones that I pretty much recorded in one or two takes. The last song, “Julene (1st Take)” is called that because I only intended it to be a rough guide track to use as a springboard for track 5, “Julene.” After I went through and added drums, bass, backing vocals, and the rest, I went back to that first take and found there was something perfect in the imperfections. After I polished it up and created “Julene,” I decided to go back and include “Julene (1st Take)” as it was the very first time I played through and recorded the song.
So here it is. There are definitely more polished recordings coming out this year, but that’s not what this album was about for me. It was about recording a collections of songs the way I heard them. Hope you enjoy hearing the songs as much as I enjoyed playing them.
